| The
temple is said to have been built by Nanjunda
son of Nanjaraja, a Mahamandelshwara of Kodagu
(wide Gezettier of Kodagu DT - 76) inscription.
This is a 16th century temple as per the inscription
and stylistically it is a post Vijayanagara period
The temple consists of a garbhagriha a Sukanasi
and a Navaranga with two enterances, proches on
the east and south. A few pillars of the temple
resembles Hoysala style and architecture belongs
to 16th century. There is shrine in the northern
side in which a beautiful idol is holding Damaruga
and Trishula. This is considered as one of the
finest sculpture of late Chalukya/Hoysala period.
