Major Structural Repairs

1. In the first instance the whole area around the main temple should be brought to its original level by excavation. There is every possibility of getting plenty of original architectural members of the cloister mantapa. In addition, this excavation will expose the original plinth of the main temple.
2. The out of plumb wall and the pilasters of the navaranga should be reconditioned. The broken architectural members will have to be replaced.
3. The entrances on the southern and northern sides of the navaranga will have to be altered to give more height, but without changing architectural feature.
4. Grill doors should be provided instead of wooden doors.
5. The screen in front of the navaranga should not by removed as proposed earlier. It should be maintained, because it is not so late in origin as one presumes and also due to the fact that involves religious belief. But it can be made thinner in which to give more space for the passage in between the screen and the front wall of the navaranga. It is necessary to provide any pillar at the comers, it should be concealed and the original features should not be obliterated.
6. The height of the passage in front of the navaranga and the entrance need to be raised. It can be done either by lowering the floor level or by raising the height at the top. This should be decided after tracing the original level of construction activity. The kirthimukha with Bhairava in one of the niches in front of the navaranga may be replaced with a sculpture of Subrahmanya. The kirthimukha may be placed in the shikhara at proper place.
7. The missing shikhara over the garbhagriha may be reconstructed. It should be either in dravida style or in kadamba-nagara style.
8. The mahamantapa was originally an open one. It should be made open by removing all accretions. More height can be achieved by providing pillar bases.
9. The mantapa in front of Shiva shrine, which is of late origin and has no architectural value, should be removed. Shiva shrine may be reconstructed suitably by providing ardhamantapa in front. Shikhara provided to the main temple may be repealed on the garbhagriha of this shrine. 10. A small shrine with suitable ardhamantapa and shikhara may be built for Hanuman.
11. Deepasthamba in front of the main shrine should be reconditioned.
12. Existing original portion of the cloister mantapa should be repaired with available original architectural members. However, the missing ceiling slabs and chajja stones may be provided with new members. After executing this, if the things are favorable, other portions of the cloister mantapa can be taken up for execution. At that time the mahadwara can also taken up for conservation.
13. It is evident that the whole complex area had been paved with stone slabs. This can be done with the available slabs.
14. The recently constructed plinths on the southern side of the temple should be dismantled. 15. After executing the conservation work, a perfect suitable drainage system should be provided, so that the problem faced by the monument in the past will not repeat.
