A : Main Temple Portion
1.Providing sand bag supports
and pole supports to the root slabs as well as
inner veneer slabs of 3 cells containing 3 main
deities, which are daily worshipped. The Sand
is put in a neatly stitched cement bags & laid
properly one over the other up to ceiling slabs,
and also providing vertical and horizontal support
by poles, so that the silver part ornament will
not be disturbed during execution period. Simultaneously
the worship also can be continued during execution
period until it is finished neatly.
2.Numbering the external structural
members of Main temple from top to bottom, which
have been disturbed, sunk or damaged from their
original position. The Numbering will be clearly
indicating the sides, courses and numbers in each
stone preferably in different colors for clear
location of them and marking the same in drawing
sketches prepared for the purpose of reference,
so that there could not be any confusion while
restoring them as per original style and finished
neatly.
3.Clearing the growth of vegetation
in the courtyard fully up to its boundaries, and
leveling the undulated surface in order to stack
the dismantled members on their respective sides
course wise, number wise for easily carrying on
the restoration work.
4.Dismantling the parapet wall
or brick masonry carefully at the height of 12ft
from the ground without damaging the structural
members and bricks as far as possible so that
they could be reused in construction including
sorting of full bricks, half bricks and other
bricks separately and stacking at a place shown
during execution and throwing the waste stuff
beyond the temple and finally finishing the work
neatly.
5.Dismantling the external structural
members and the main temple i.e. outer veneer
members, along with core filling from top to bottom
carefully using proper scaffolding, pulley blocks,
etc.& providing pole properly to the members from
inside as well as outside in order to keep the
standing members, not to slide or damage the Masdoors
or the structure, while carrying the restoration
work.
6.Excavation work - Excavation
in hard soil for strengthening foundation [for
introducing fresh foundation] in piece meal not
more than 6' to 7' in length by providing supports
at the bottom or standing structures as found
necessary during work and filling balance past
or trench with the earth available at site after
introducing masonry and disposing of the stuff
outside the temple premises and finishing neatly.
7.Laying cement concrete 1:5:10
proportionately in the foundation using 11/2"
to 2" granite jelly including all form of work
and consolidation, curing, etc. to complete.
8.Structuring bottom portion
of the temple walls by constructing size stone
masonry with 1:6 cm proportion, by providing proper
bonds in each course at a distance of 6ft. Alternately
the stones are hammer dressed & are packed in
the excavated portion without leaving any sort
of gaps. Finally finishing the work as per direction
during excavation.
9.Provision for preparing missing
part or structure or replacing the broken member/pulversed
member, etc., which may come across during the
course of execution of work by selecting stories,
matching their texture, color and finally reproducing
the missing or damaged ones as per original and
kept ready for using them during work.
10.Restoration of dismantled
structural members in their original position
using pulley and scaffolding poles etc., which
are needed during work. Fixing of M.S. Dowel of
size 8"x1"x1/4" with their ends being bent to
1" length by cutting suitable holes in the members
and fixing in a concealed manner using head. A
very thin layer of 1:4 cement mortar is used in
joints, the core in between the outer and inner
courses are filled with brick jelly concrete of
1:5:10 proportion, then they are consolidated
well and finally the joints are sunk, painted
with 1:3 cm including toning, curing, till the
completion of the work.
11.Removal of very thick layer
of cement mortar - The concrete that has completely
covered the original features of Shikara faces,
from top to bottom, is slowly removed thus exposing
the original features of shikara. The acid painting
of the joints of shikara to its full depth in
1:3 cm is then performed. Missing portion is replaced
afterwards as per original pattern including its
erection and removal or scaffolding, toning, curing,
etc before it is replaced.
12.Provision for repairing the
existing door shutters of the temple, by removing
damaged /decayed part or planks/scantling and
replacing them with local wood such as nandi or
mathi wood, & then fixed properly using proper
bolts and nuts. Replacing of all fixtures with
new ones as per temple type for safety purpose,
and finished with 2 coats of approved paint.
13.Construction of parapet wall
all-round terrace with old bricks and new bricks
in 1:6 cm as per direction & then erecting or
scaffolding, curing etc.
14.Plastering the terrace with
1:6 cm to a thickness of ¾", after
removing & brushing neatly
the old plaster.
15.Dismantling the sunken flooring
slabs from their position after numbering them
and marking
the numbers in the sketch and relaying the same
in proper level over a sand bed of 3"thick.
[Without attending any dressing work]. Joints
are sunk painted with 1:3 cm followed by toning,
curing, etc
PART-B: - HADINARU CHAVADI
[MANTAPA]
1.Numbering the structural members
of Hadinaruchawadi Mantapa both interior as well
exterior from top to bottom along with roof slabs
[domes] beams, capital, pillars, jagati, kakshasanas,
Adistana courses and also flooring slabs, using
separate color, for easy identification and marking
the said numbers in sketches, before dismantling
in order to restore them again as per original
style, after attending the proposed conservation
works.
2.Dismantling the parapet wall
of brick masonry. All-round the terrace along
with weatherproof course to its full thickness,
the damaged structural members [while executing
work] exists. Stacking of good bricks and half
bricks are separately done at a selected place,
throwing the waste material away from the temple.
The process also includes erecting, scaffolding,
cleaning the top surface of roof slabs with brushes
and watered to make the area watered and kept
ready for attending numbering work.
3.Dismantling the structural
members of Mantapa (roof domes, pillars, Jagati
platforms, Kakshasanas and Adistana courses) by
proper pulley block and scaffolding equipments
and stacked in the respective sides of Mantapa
according to courses and numbered in order [for
easy restoration work] for taking the construction
works prepared for Mantapa.
4.Excavation work: - Excavation
in hard soil is done for providing sound foundation.
The process also involves throwing the debris
away from the temple.
5.Lying cements concrete in 1:5:10
proportion in the foundation using 11/2" to 2"
granite jelly. Curing is done later to stack the
concrete strongly.
6.Constructing size stone masonry
in 1:6 cm Proportion to the foundation. All details
as mentioned in item 8 or A and finished neatly.
7.Provision for preparing any
missing / broken / pulverized part of structure
if come across during the course of execution
with a replacement of matching stone and prepared
as per original and kept ready for work. 8.Restoration
of dismantled members to their proper original
position and finished as per details slated under
item
8 or part A and finished neatly.
9.Construction of parapet wall,
with bricks of 1:6 cm as per direction. The process
also includes curing etc., to complete the work.
10.Laying fresh weather proof
course over the terrace to an average truck of
1 foot using 1 lime and 3 brick jelly well mixed
and laid proper slope in layers of 6" thick, well
consolidated by sprinkling lime liquid. During
consolidation, its top is plastered with 1:6 cm
to ¾" thick mixed with water proofing compound,
and toned, cured to neatly finish the work.
11.Relaying of dismantled floor
slabs as per original manner, [without any dressing]
over a sand cushion of 3", twice and then the
joints are sunk painted with 1:3 cm, neatly toned
to match the slabs & cured to complete the task.
12.Providing and laying flag
stone pavement with slabs of 3" thick, over the
sand bed of 3" thick, To have close joints [without
dressing], the slabs have been trimmed off. Then
the joints sunk painted with 1:3 cm and toned
to match the slabs.
PART C: - CHEMICAL CLEANING
A thick coat of lime wash paint
and other foreign materials, which were covering
the architectural features of temple walls, were
removed. Highly ornamented ceilings on the roof
of main temple and that of Hadinaru Mantapa, door
jambs, beautiful lathe turned pillars in the main
temple, and the 4 Main pillars of Hadinaru chavadi
are brought back to their original look by using
chemicals and thorough washing on the surface
to look neat. Clearing the entire temple outside,
from top to bottom, with detergent materials [chemicals]
in order to remove the existing thick coating
of mud, etc. to expose the original features.
